Where collaboration meets individuality.
Piotr cultivates personality and artistry in collaborative piano performance. His interpretations are rooted in genuine appreciation of music and people.
Piotr Kozłowski is a pianist whose interpretations center on authenticity. His playing favors creativity, spontaneity, and a strong sense of partnership, shaped by a close attention to both music and people.
He was born in Olsztyn, in northeastern Poland, and grew up surrounded by forests and lakes. Alongside piano, he was equally interested in photography, and science, and for a time considered studying medicine. This early balance between artistic curiosity and analytical thinking continues to influence his musical approach.
Kozłowski studied piano at the Fryderyk Chopin National Music School in Olsztyn with Bogusława Borkowska, where he received early recognition in national competitions. In 2013, he entered the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. There, under the guidance of Ramiro Sanjines, Katarzyna Jankowska-Borzykowska and through coursework in philosophy, culture and art history, his perspective on music widened. A particularly formative influence during this period was Krzysztof Lipka, philosopher, musicologist, writer, and art historian, whose seminars and lectures encouraged deeper reflection on meaning and context in music.
During the time in Vienna as an Erasmus+ student, Kozłowski encountered a broad international musical atmosphere that proved formative. Working with Avedis Kouyoumdjian of the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, he was deeply influenced by the city’s musical culture and its relationship to architecture, painting, and intellectual life. Vienna became an important reference point in his artistic development.
A pivotal influence came through his work with pianist Kevin Kenner, whom he met during International Piano Week in Denmark. This mentorship later led him to the United States, where he served as a Teaching Assistant at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. Alongside teaching, he became increasingly engaged with contemporary repertoire and collaborative performance.
His doctoral research focused on piano-percussion works by Kazimierz Serocki, George Crumb, and Donald Scott Stinson, including a newly commissioned piece. The work was recorded alongside Crumb’s Music for the Summer Evening and Serocki’s Fantasmagoria, reflecting his interest in sound, texture, and time in music.
Kozłowski has performed and given masterclasses across Europe and North America. Based in New York City, he serves as a collaborative pianist at the Manhattan School of Music, where he works closely with singers, while maintaining an active freelance career with composers and chamber partners. His Palette Trio has appeared in concerts in New York and throughout the Midwest.
Kozłowski has held fellowships at the Bowdoin International Music Festival and the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance. In addition to his performing work, he serves as a Piano Mentor at tonebase, and continues to freelance nationally and internationally.
At the core of his work is a belief that collaboration is a primary artistic practice.
